The father and daughter don't seem all too unalike to me. I don't understand how anyone could wonder where the teenager gets her self centered ego driven attitude from.

Did you notice that he spoke about his daughter the exact same way his daughter spoke about him on Facebook? I wonder who she learned that from? Also: Only a dumb ass would shoot something he paid for to punish someone else. “Just for that, I'm gonna slash the tires on the car I bought you! That'll learn ya!”

My dad was like this to me, and I hated him at the time. BUT DEAR GOD did he teach me responsibility and manners. I feel like a well rounded person because of him. I love my dad. And I love this dad.

HAHAHA. As a parent of two very awesome teenagers, can I just be the one to say that you get what you give…if you are an asshole parent, you are going to get kids that act like assholes…if you treat them fairly, be firm and consistent and don't act like an overbearing douche, you'll get a happy kids that don't feel a need to act out. Not exactly rocket science…

The daughter was immature for posting that on Facebook, the father is immature for responding to it in this manner and these kids are immature for their reactions. Also why does everyone complain about making the bed? It takes four seconds.

I teach kids that are this age… I assume that her father read an edited version of the post. Most schools give presentations on responsible use of online forums or social networking sites. If the child is living under the roof of their parent(s) the parent has the legal right to access anything they post because ultimately they are responsible for their behavior. I think his presentation was probably the end result of many confrontations. 3 months? Last time and only time I did this as a teen I got a dressing down along with having my bedroom door taken off and anything that uses electricity taken for almost 6 months. He bought the laptop, he can shoot it if he wants get over it

A lot of parents are dealing with their teens saying similar stuff on facebook like this. Hey, I was mad at my parents for a great deal of my teenage years, but I had a diary or friends to talk to in person. Now teens write everything on the internet where everyone can see it, which leads to problems.  Maybe their should be an age limit on certain functions on the internet

So we're supposed to weigh in here on who's the most immature, him, his daughter, or the commenters? I have no idea.

I'm not a parent, but I am an adult. I understand his reaction to his daughter's disrespect but I think he should have taken time to cool off, not reacted thusly (and so publicly).  I myself was kicked out of my house at fourteen for things I had written in my private, paper journal (which I kept buried in my sock drawer; it was found because it was looked for, not stumbled upon). so i feel for the daughter. but facebook is more public than a journal buried in a sock drawer…it's a different world, but both parents needed to think things through more thoroughly before reacting as such.

If I was him I would have beat the hell out of my kid.. She got off easy
