I like how the photo of the baby elephant used in this post is an animatronic from Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride, hahaha.
My company just switched over to “self-managed time off”… which is basically unlimited vacation. As long as our manager approves it and we’re not going on vacation at a super busy time of year, we can take 3 weeks off if we want to at once, etc. My old company was 15 days of PTO total, and that included both vacation and sick days. I’d find myself going into work even when sick because I didn’t want to have to use PTO. Now, it’s just nice not having to stress out about if I get sick or if I want to take multiple vacations in a year. As long as you don’t abuse it and try to take some ridiculous 2 month sabbatical, then you’re fine. I have to be honest, it’s a smart idea for our company to do it because for me, work-life balance is WAY more important to me than money, so if I ever think about leaving, this is something that a new company would have a hard time competing with.
Or be awesome like my mother-in-law and have her surprise you with custom Where the Wild Things Are Chucks to wear at your wedding… :)
