Friendly Reminder: This Is The Last Time We Saw Mulder And Scully

A post-credit sequence left the X-Files pair all at sea. WARNING: SPOILERS

This week, the world was treated to a first look at Mulder and Scully in the brand new X-Files series.

But where have they been? Last time we saw them was 2009 film sequel, The X-Files: I Want To Believe.

Mulder had gone full lumbersexual, and Scully had grown her hair out.

At the start of the film, Fox is on the lam, hiding from the FBI.

Dana is working at a hospital.

Scully agrees to help the FBI when a young agent goes missing.

She persuades Mulder to shave. And to get back to what he does best: Investigating paranormal phenomena.

And Xzibit was in it for some reason.

And was actually very good. Well done, Xzibit.

Oh and Mulder and Scully were totally doing it.

Like actually, fully, infiltrating each other's Area 51s.

Long story short: They catch the bad guys, save the girl, and Scully resolves her crisis of faith.

But the last time we saw them is in a post credit sequence, which you may have missed.

The helicopter flies low across a tropical looking ocean...

...and finds Mulder and Scully in a row boat.

Mulder is rowing while Scully lounges like a boss.

It is never explained why they are in a row boat.

Then, as the camera zooms out, they both look up and wave goodbye.

Was it an FBI helicopter, keeping tabs on them?

Were they undercover in the Bermuda Triangle? (Perhaps in a nod to one of the original series' best episodes, Triangle). Or were they just causally breaking the fourth wall? So many questions!

The X-Files returns for a six-episode mini-series in January, 2016.
