OMG I remember going to Weeki Watchee with my grandparents when I was a little kid! I even remember the song: “Dancin’… swimmin’… fish-tailed… women!” As an illustration of the self-esteem-building decade that was the 1970s, the joke was that you were supposed to send someone a postcard with a picture of all the mermaids, and they were supposed to circle the one they wanted and send it back! And my dad did! Ah, what a life-affirming environment for a young girl to grow up in. But seriously, folks, I’m sure that the mermaid positions are also open to women who are chubby, unattractive, older than 30, brunette or even… dare I say… short-haired? Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?
