There is nothing funny in sexual harassment, sexual assault or the ways in which women (and men) are made to feel uncomfortable on a daily basis, but the vast majority of these examples are poorly thought out, unintelligent and miss the mark completely. I don’t believe that the author entirely understands the context or even the plots of some of these films. There is little (if anything) in Some Like it Hot to suggest that ‘Daphne’ is a predator and the plot of the movie, why he and ‘Josephine’ are dressed as women and travelling with the music group, has nothing to do with wanting to harass women or having bad intentions; they’re running away from the mafia. If anything, the example from Some Like it Hot that best portrays the harassment of women is the harassment receives from the manager when he feels her up. Again, there will never be anything amusing in sexism or harassment but the best argument is an intelligent and informed one and this ‘article’ is poorly researched and falls flat. There are many films that would better exemplify the way sexism and harassment is poked fun at, but these are largely taken out of context and thus, your argument is left weak and relatively uninformed.
