I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. Growing up there were great shows that I could relate to about black family life. And then everything went up in smoke. Thankfully there were shows like Girlfriends and Everybody Hates Chris but they didn’t get the attention or recognition they deserved.
And I agree about Scandal- Olivia Pope is a great character conceptually but does she have to be the “other woman” for people to notice who she is beyond her career. Flaws are essential in good television but there are other ways that could be addressed.
I’m hopeful for Blackish this fall and I hope the success of that will spur more shows with dynamic black characters to be created.
