It hasn't been 6000 years since the creation of Adam, it has been exactly 5770 years, since just this weekend was celebrated Rosh Hashana 5770 (Jewish new year celebrated in this day because of the exact day of the 6th day of Genesis) But yes, according to Judaism, the world lasts for 6000 years and then “rests” just like the cycle of 6 days of work per week and one day (Sabbath) to rest.
