This professor might as well have whipped out his dick and measured it in front of the class.  Your students are paying you to teach. They are not paying you to be their parents. You are absolutely correct that being disrespectful to someone who is paying you for a service is bad business…so check your ego at the door and take your own advice in earnest.

Ironic that the end comments of his message are about manners and respect. shouldn't he be taking his own advice? He sounds like just another self-important academic.

This professor is awesome, and doesn't come across as a self-important jerk at all. He comes across as a guy that doesn't have to pander to a spoiled baby of a student. If the e-mail's kind of harsh, well, lesson learned because no one in the business world is going to put up with this kid's whiny shit, so why should academia?

Kinda funny. I agree with the prof, but he's a total asshole. Sampling classes and getting miffed when you are booted from one an hour late is a little iffy, but the adult thing to do when faced with a situation like that is to politely address the person with whom you are in conflict. This prof has inadvertently given this student a life lesson: some people are self important assholes and need to be treated gingerly because they are your boss in some fashion. This guy/kid/whatever should walk away from this situation knowing two things:
1. Don't take classes from this Prof.
2. Take dressing downs with aplomb.

Gotta agree with the prof.  If you really have to choose between classes, you have a couple weeks to make your decision.

The student was an idiot for sending the original email, to be sure, but Galloway comes across as a real self-important jerk. A website that's essentially the Signals catalog is nothing to brag about.
