Hey guys, are you even aware of what’s going on in France?
This is not about gay rights. It is about the fact that democratic processes are being trampled in France right now. Do you think it is normal for 14 year-olds to be beaten up by the police for taking part in a peaceful demonstration?
Do you think it is normal for the police to fire tear gas at thousands of people quietly sitting on the Invalides square?
Do you think it is normal to fire tear gas at families with children (and I mean children under 10!) for taking part in a peaceful protest?
Do you think it is normal for people to be taken in custody for wearing a T-shirt depicting a traditionnal family?
Do you think it is normal for 93 people (including an elderly lady, a pregnant woman, a priest and a blind man) to be arrested for having showed up outside a school where the president was giving a speech? This is happening right now in France. Millions of French people have been protesting in the last few months. All they wanted was a referendum. And that’s how the government responded to them. Whether you are pro gay marriage or anti gay marriage you should recognise that freedom of speech and opinion is a fundament of democracy. And that a country that denies its citizen those rights is not a democratic country.
