I’m a young African American female working at a construction management firm. The racial microaggressions are plenty, but often times contractors and clients think that I can’t tell a hammer from a wrench. I deal with a lot of old school construction workers who think it’s okay to call me sweetie or darling. I once was at a site walking across beams, I was perfectly light on my feet, and one of the workers felt it necessary to hold the small of my back and arm to guide me! He almost made me fall!
