Michael Jordan’s Chicago Mansion Headed For Auction

Got $250,000? That's enough to get in on the bidding action.

After trying to attract a buyer for his massive modern north of Chicago, NBA legend Michael Jordan is going to try and get it sold another way: To the highest bidder.

Jordan’s 56,000-square-foot museum-like home in Highland Park will be up for auction on Nov. 22, according to Concierge Auctions. Sir Air told the Wall Street Journal that he no longer needs a full-time residence in his adopted hometown since his kids are grown and he’s now an executive with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Jordan had the 7.9-acre property originally listed for $29 million before a 28-percent price cut to $21 million. Still, with no buyers, Jordan is looking to take the bull by the horns, so to speak.

Hidden behind high privacy gates, and surrounded by evergreen trees, the house has a litany of high-end features, starting with 9 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms and 5 fireplaces.

The lower level holds a card room, cigar room with a custom-built, walk-in humidor, wine room and tasting space, as well as a “gentleman’s retreat.”

Doors from the original Playboy Mansion lead to the space, which holds a billiards room, library, and full wet bar. And, of course, there is a full-size, regulation basketball court built to Jordan’s exact specifications.

Bidders can register their bids up to three days prior to the event. All it takes is a $250,000 deposit, which is significantly over the the median home price in the Highland Park area. Homes have a median home value of $459,000 and many of the 280 homes on the market are priced above that.

The pinnacle of the home is the NBA regulation-size court, which Jordan had built to his exact specifications. The court is accessible by a separate entrance with its own parking lot and also has a full locker room and lounge with viewing area.
