Of Mice And Men: South Florida Vibe With Austin

Of Mice & Men, Austin Carlile, West Palm Beach, Warped Tour '14

Of Mice And Men: South Florida Vibe With Austin

Of Mice And Men, a band that has been recently touring the world and owning it as their stage, with an album released earlier this year that reached #4 on the Top 200, is no petty band to be messed with. We got the gracious chance to interview the charming lead singer, Austin Carlile for a bit and get a whiff of this stupendous singer. From an iPhone that fell in the toilet, to the celebration of the release of Restoring Force, Austin spoke of it all.

Austin: [phone beeps] Hello my name is Austin Carlile and I sing for Of Mice And Men and I have a broken iPhone. [phone beeps]

Zhayda: So, what's your favorite memory from tour so far?

A: Losing my iPhone in Brussels. Buying an iPod in Norway for entirely way too much. Making it through tour with Wi-Fi from my iPod and making it to the States to buy a phone then dropping it in the toilet for days later and now having a broken iPhone. It's pretty funny, this all happened within a week.

Z: What's your favorite part about performing live?

A: My favorite part about performing live… I think just being able to do it in general. Being on stage, I love being able to play music. There's no better feeling to me in the whole world than performing for a thousand people. It's just me expressing myself to them.

Z: What's your favorite song to play?

A: Depends on the day, depends on the day.

Z: After release Restoring Force, you've been on tour pretty much nonstop. You toured with Bring Me The Hroizon, Issues, Letlive. and a few others. Then you went to Europe and the U.K. How has it been releasing this new album that has a completely different sound?

A: It's been great celebrating the release all over. We have to stay on the road, we have to stay for people that listen, for people that have never heard us before. We played in Europe in front of Iron Maiden and Black Label Society fans. Playing at all these different festivals, we've gotten to play for people who have never heard us before. It's cool to be able to play these new songs that we wrote and had so much fun making in front of all these people.

Z: What inspired You're Not Alone?

A: [phone starts calling someone] My phone is face-timing someone now... You're Not Alone, it's a simple message for our fans. With been there, we've done it, other people have been there.

Z: What's the craziest place you've played a show at?

A: Um, I don't know, everywhere we've played. Australia is great, Japan is great.

Z: Where is one place you'd like to travel to and haven't yet?

    A: Indonesia.

Z: What's the craziest fan experience you've ever had?

A: [breathes in and out deeply] Craziest thing? I find a prosthetic leg the other day, that was kind of cool. I hear different stories every day, and it's nice to hear how our music has helped people come out of hard times.

Z: Do you prefer playing new songs are old songs?

A: Both, I love play new ones. It's fresh, it's exciting, it's new.

Z: Musically, what are you trying to say to your fans?

A: Depends on the song, it depends on the song.

    Z: Alright, we're good!
