John McCain Flubs Attack, Says Romney Doesn’t Agree With Him On Earmarks

CONWAY, South Carolina—New Mitt Romney endorser Sen. John McCain is having trouble remembering not to criticize his former rival.

During a rally here with South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, McCain tripped up when laying into Romney’s rivals Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum over their support of federal earmarks and pork barrel projects.

“Earmarks are a gateway to corruption, and I can tell you — neither Mitt Romney nor Rick Santorum share that view…uh…when Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House earmarks exploded.”
