Awkward Moment As Ohio Gov. Brings Up Portman's VP Consideration

    "He was seriously considered."

OXFORD, Ohio — Ohio Gov. John Kasich precipitated an awkward moment before Rep. Paul Ryan's remarks at his alma mater, when he noted that Sen. Rob Portman was also considered for the role of Mitt Romney's vice president.

"You know, he was seriously considered for this job," Kasich said with Portman at his side as the crowd stood stunned.

"His wife told me that little Sally — who's 17 — is the vice president of her class," Kasich continued in reference to Portman's daughter, "and his wife said this family can only stand one vice president at a time."

A Ryan aide confirmed that Ryan and Portman had a chance to meet before the event saying "They are old friends. They talked about their families, and Skyline Chili."
