IS THERE A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES AND THE MUSIC THAT WE LISTEN TO?

Does the music that we listen to dictate who we are friends with?

Music works as an outlet, it's like a rhythmically inclined coping mechanism for both those who make it and for those who listen to it. For the artists, making music is their way to escape, to let go and truly be them selves. It's a way for them to allow everything that they think about and deal with on a daily basis to slip away. For the listeners, the music that they choose is a reflection of how they are feeling. Certain songs can trigger specific memories, in this case what they are listening to resonates with them on a deeper level. Does the connection that people have with music play into the connection that they seek with the people in their lives? Does it affect their perception on how they connect with people who will enter their lives at later times or their expectations of what said people are like personally?

Music is extremely important for socializing and maintaining ones identity. The similarity alone between the types of music that two people listen to can influence their decision of whether or not they will build a relationship beyond the point of initial interaction. people expect the music that they like to be creative, relevant, and relate-able. Creatively, i can assume that the listener would expect the music to have something different to offer, either in sound or lyrical content. However regarding relevance and whether or not the music being listened to is relate-able, people expect to understand what they are hearing on a more personal level. It makes sense for people to look for these characteristics in other people.
