15 Things To Do Before You Start At The University Of York

New student at the University of York? Here are some things to help prepare you for your university adventure!

2. Choose your college and accommodation

3. Sort out your Student Finance

You need the dollar. https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/overview

4. Keep calm when your Student Finance application breaks the internet

You'll get there eventually...

5. Set up a Student bank account

Make sure you check out things like your overdraft limit, and whether any free things are on offer when you sign up.

6. Remind yourself that, at some point, you do ACTUALLY have to pay back your loan and overdraft...

Its easy to get carried away when your loan comes in. Making a weekly budget can help you manage your money better.

7. Follow all of YUSU's social media to stay up to date with things

8. Join the 'University of York: Official Freshers Week 2014' facebook event to meet other new students

This is the only official event, page or group run by us (although there are plenty of others pretending to be), so go here for all the correct information!

9. Get ridiculously excited about Freshers week and buy all your event tickets!

YUSU runs the big weekend events: Live & Loud, Comedy Night, and also the Viking Raid bar crawl in the second week of term.

Your college will run all midweek events through Freshers week. All tickets can be bought online.

10. Get a Young Persons Railcard

Trains can be a student's best friend- especially when you can get 33% off all travel when you buy a railcard. And York is so accessible by train- you can get to London or Edinburgh in 2 hours!

11. Buy an NUS Extra card for amazing discounts

For only £12 you get incredible student discount on so many things. Happy shopping. Yayyyyy.

12. Find all of your new housemates on facebook

Prepare yourself for some serious online small talk.

13. Try not to get too bored while you wait for term at York to EVENTUALLY start
