You don't need a signed affidavit before having sex, but a bit of courtesy, respect, and consent would be great!

What if I told you I woke up to him fingering me? His hand inside my vagina.

Would you tell me that is normal boyfriend behavior?

What if I then told you, still believing I was asleep, he removed his boxers and moved to have sex with me?

Would you still call that pretty normal behavior?

Now what if I told you that when I pushed his hand away, he tried to put it back? When I said "No," he said, "Yes I made you ready." And tried again.

Would you finally concede that he has crossed a line? That this was not ok. That this falls into sexual assault.

Here is the problem;

This was a sexual assault from the moment his fingers entered my vagina.

He had never asked if I was ok with sexual things happening to my body while I was asleep. So I never had a chance to consent to being fingered while unconscious.

NO CONSENT = SEXUAL ASSAULT.

I was told that it was a misunderstanding. That I was overreacting. That the moment we had started having sex, this type of thing was just normal.

It sounded like because his penis had entered my vagina before, it was now his property. He was allowed to do whatever he wanted with it.

This type of thinking is not ok. Let us bring boundaries, consent, and assault in the context of relationships out into the light of day.

Because no one should have to question whether waking up to someone else inside them without consent is really an assault.
