Heroes Manufactured - Documentary Explores Canadian Comic Industry And Comic Con Market
TORONTO – 2015 Canadian Indie filmmaker and past owner of the Toronto Moving Image Film Festival Yaron Betan will be debuting his second full length documentary feature Film “Heroes Manufactured” in the upcoming year as part of an exploration of comic book culture, fandom and a study of today’s Canadian fiction. The film will be screened in local cinemas across Toronto and continue its run in neighboring cities, Montreal, Mississauga, Markham and potentially Hamilton and Ottawa. Heroes Manufactured - A doc that engages many of today's celebrities with a mash up of some of pop culture’s classic film, TV and comic book heroes. It includes such cameos as Sam Jones (Flash Gordon), Jeffrey Weismann (Back to the Future 2, and 3) and even the Heavyweight boxing champion (Mike Tyson). The film explores the world of fandom, pop culture and breaking into the art, entertainment and comic book industry as a Canadian. The story follows up and coming canadian comic book artist who are finding their niche in the industry’s main marketplace with creations of their stories, characters and ideas. These include everything from comedy skits, heroic portrayals of the supernatural, science fiction based work, zombie-horror stories and every possible genre you can think of. The documentary basis itself in the over saturated market of comic book conventions by exploiting the effects they have on mass media and pop culture. The film conveys a message of hope and a realistic wakeup call as so many of the shows explored are so overly populated with mass appeal in the current brands, movies, known comic book characters who are admired by so many of its fans.
