Have you ever heard about “One Direction”? Well, let me tell you a bit about this very young boy band.
The popular boy band “one direction” consists of five cool boys: Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne. Four of the boys are British while the fifth is Irish. Louis Tomlinson is the eldest of the group, he has just turned twenty. The second oldest is Zany Malik who is nineteen years old. Liam Payne, Harry styles and Niall Horan are all eighteen.
In 2010, each of them auditioned as solo artists for the seventh season of UK’s show: X factor where the judges suggested they come together as a group. Harry styles suggested the new name and One Direction was formed. After coming 3rd in the show, One direction signed a record contract with Simon Cowell’s company. Then in the next year, One Direction released their hit single “what makes you beautiful” which had succeeded not only in the UK but all around the world and won the award for Best British single at the 2012 BRIT Awards. Then their second single “gotta be you” was released on November. Sooner then, they released their first album “up all night” which became the fastest-selling album of 2011 in the UK.

Niall Horan:
Niall Horan was born on the 19th September 1993 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. From a young age, Niall loved to sing; he sang in school choir and participated in the X factor. He loved playing guitar since he was 12 years and performed around his homeland including as a support act for Lloyd Daniels in Dublin.
Zayn Malik:
Zayn Malik was born on January 12th 1993 in Bradford, England. His father Yaser is a British Pakistani and his mother is English. He grew up with three sisters Doniya, Waliyha and Safaa. Zayn auditioned in 2010 for X-Factor and was almost eliminated after refusing to dance. But he returned and was put with One Direction.
Harry styles:
Harry Styles was born on February 1st 1994 and is from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England. As a child he loved singing. Styles was the lead singer for the band White Eskimo and they had once entered a local Battle of the Bands which they won. He loved many singers like Elvis Presley, Coldplay, the Beatles…and considered them as his inspirations “I still listen to their music over and over again. They are absolute icons and an inspiration,” he says.
Louis Tomlinson:
Louis was born 24th of December 1991 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. He attended an acting school in Barnsley. He also had small parts in an ITV1 drama called If “I Had You”, and BBC’s Waterloo Road. He was a sixth form student at Hall Cross School, a state comprehensive school, and a former pupil of the Hayfield School. In an interview, he mentioned Michael Jackson as a “real inspiration” saying “I am a big Michael Jackson fan. He was a real inspiration and had so many great songs.”
Liam Payne:
Liam Payne was born on 29th August 1993 in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. He described himself as a “naughty boy at school.” He tried out for teams, and found his place on the cross-country team in which he did very well, coming first in one of his competitions. He also took up boxing as a way to fight back when being picked on. Payne first auditioned in 2008 to The X Factor’s fifth series when he was fourteen. He made it to the judges’ houses, but Cowell thought he was not ready for the competition and asked him to come back in two years.
