Man Asking for Directions in the Middle of the Atlantic was Rescued

Reza Baluchi tried to run from Miami to Bermuda and back (over 1,000 miles) in a home made “zorb” to raise money for his children’s charity: Plant Unity. Unfortunately he was found in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean “disoriented and asking for directions to Bermuda.” A few days later he eventually gave up and asked the Coast Guard to pick him up. Sorry to burst your bubble if you had the hopes of being the first person to ask for directions while running around on the middle of the ocean.

Scientists Discover Uncertainties in Previous Ocean Warming Studies

Oceans absorb more than 90% of global heat, but how much this affects their temperatures is uncertain. Scientists discovered that previously estimated temperature changes in the top 700 meters in the Southern Ocean are between 48% - 152% too low. Meanwhile, another group of scientists claim that the extent of deep ocean warming is still unknown, leaving plenty of uncertainty. As a result, researchers are testing new research buoys which can descend to 6,000 meters and take various types of measurements, in the hopes that these will reveal the true extent of ocean warming.

Damselfish Fail to Adapt to Warming Waters

Scientist have been testing the effects of climate change on the ability of Spiny Damselfish to adapt to increasing water temperatures. The study concluded that Damselfish will take at least several generations to cope with changing climate, with no guarantee that they will ever successfully adapt and with the risk of a complete population collapse being high. This ultimately further supports, what we have heard plenty of times before, that we NEED to reduce CO2 emissions and complete more research to better understand organisms’ adaptation to climate change over time.
