3. Sea otters hold hands while sleeping so they don't drift apart.

They sleep in "rafts" — a bunch of floating otters all joined together, numbering from a couple of otters right up to 100. Also, a mother otter turns her body into a crib for her baby by floating on her back and letting the baby sleep on her chest. All of this just adds to our list of reasons why otters are the best animals ever.

7. Astronauts are two inches taller in space than they are on Earth.

The weightlessness due to the lack of gravity causes their spines to decompress. The same thing happens to you in the morning; you will be about an inch taller when you get up than when you go to bed.

10. Elephant shrews are actually related to elephants.

Now you can see the nose you're wondering why you never noticed before. They're from the same genetic group as sea cows, aardvarks, and some other African mammals. "They're not closely related, but they're more closely related to one another than to anything else," says this scientist.

11. Male penguins will "propose" to a lady penguin with a pebble.

He'll search the whole beach trying to find the perfect pebble. When he does, he drops it at her feet. If she picks up up in her beak, they're mates for life. Cheaper than a ring, right?

18. Norway knighted a penguin. His name is Sir Nils Olav.
