Wofford College's Top 10 Moments Of 2014

This year has been one to remember, so before we go rushing into the New Year we are taking a moment to reminisce about some of our favorite moments of 2014.

Several national publications showed Wofford love in 2014.

9. Snow Day!

Rumor has it that Wofford has only closed twice due to snow since the Civil War. The accuracy of that rumor is questionable, but it's safe to say it doesn't happen often. When it does, it inevitably makes our list as one of the year's most memorable moments. Our students even live tweeted the entire two-day event using #wocosnowday.

8. Family Weekend/Fall Hospitality Day

Family Weekend and Fall Hospitality Day fell on the same beautiful Saturday afternoon this year, bringing families of both current and prospective students to campus for a day of tours, tailgating and one of the best football games of the season. On a last second stand off the Terriers held The Citadel on fourth and goal for a dramatic win.

7. Move-In Day/The largest class ever

Move-in day is the one day of the year that current Wofford students and staff drop what they are doing to gather near the first-year residence halls, welcome incoming students and their families and go into full-on beast mode as they unpack car after car. There is loud music, friendly faces, and a lot of sweet tea involved and it is quite possibly our favorite day of the year. This year we welcomed the largest class in Wofford's history (488 first-year students).

6. Wofford vs. Iona

What happens when ESPN2 comes to Wofford for a 7am basketball game? Insanity, that's what! Words cannot describe the environment in BenJo that morning, but it will forever remain engrained in our memories as the best Tuesday morning ever. Oh, and this ridiculous put-back dunk happened as well.

5. President Samhat's Inauguration

In April, Wofford officially welcomed our new president, Dr. Nayef Samhat, during an Inauguration Weekend. The ceremony was wonderful, but the party was where the real fun was had! We all donned our "Sam" hats and welcomed our President and First Lady to the Wofford family the only way we know how - A "Happy" flash mob - and it was AWESOME.

4. New Greek Village Announcement

On October 27, we announced plans to build a new Greek Village. The new plans will include houses for fraternities and sororities, and we couldn't be more excited to add this to our list of new facilities in the works!

3. We went dancing.

No, we don't mean we did the Shag. For the third time in 5 years Wofford made it to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in 2014, and we were very excited.

2. Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium donation

Wofford alumnus, owner of the Panthers, and a man who exemplifies what we like to call the "Wofford Way" donated not one but two major facilities this year. One of which was the new Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium that will serve as the home for Wofford's men's and women's basketball teams, as well as our volleyball team. Which brings us to our number one moment of 2014...

1. Center for the Arts donation and strategic vision announcement

In the span of less than a month, Wofford announced plans for three new facilities and a strategic vision for our future. The entire campus gathered in Leonard Auditorium for what we knew would be a special announcement on October 21. What we didn't know was just how much that announcement would transform our campus. That announcement revealed the college's strategic vision and announced that the Richardson family had donated the new Rosalind S. Richardson Center for the Arts. It was one of the most special moments in recent history, and tops our list as the most memorable Wofford moment of 2014.
