Seven NASCAR Drivers Surprisingly Still Seeking First Daytona 500 Victory

The Daytona 500 is the crown jewel of NASCAR. However, many of the sports greatest drivers have never won on the high banks of Daytona. Here are seven of NASCAR's top drivers who are still seeking their first victory in tomorrow's race.

1. Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart is now the second winningest driver at Daytona International Speedway, but the three-time Sprint Cup Champion has never won the Daytona 500. However, he'll have another chance this year, and his teammate Danica Patrick lead the field to start for the Great American Race

2. Mark Martin

Mark Martin is 17th on NASCAR's all-time win list, and has logged 82 Sprint Cup starts at Daytona, recording only one win in the 1999 Bud Shootout. Still, Martin's reputation to being a bridesmaid has extended to the 500, where he almost won in 2007, but still has not won NASCAR's biggest race.

3. Kyle Busch

Busch has four wins at Daytona in only his eighth year in Sprint Cup racing. However, while he earned his third career speedweeks victory in the Budweiser Duels Thursday, Kyle has never won the Daytona 500.

4. Terry Labonte

Terry Labonte has made 76 starts at Daytona, and is third among active drivers in average finish. Still, despite several second place finishes, Labonte has never won a race at Daytona. Labonte is running for an underfunded team, so start 77 is probably not going to get the two-time champion his first Daytona win.

5. Bobby Labonte

Like older brother Terry, Bobby won a NASCAR title but has never won a race at Daytona. In 64 starts, Labonte has finished runner up a couple times but has never won a race at Daytona. That said, Labonte has managed to amass some solid finishes in his last few races at Daytona, and is one of the few drivers to regularly finish well at the track.

6. Kurt Busch

Kurt Busch has been one of the best drivers at Daytona, amassing 10 top five finishes in only 24 points eligible starts, the only driver with double-digit top fives at the track with less than 40 starts. While Busch has won the 2011 Budweiser Shootout and a Budweiser Duel race, he has never been able to score a victory at the Daytona 500.

7. Carl Edwards

Amazingly, Carl Edwards has only led four laps at Daytona points races, despite sitting on the pole for the 2012 Daytona 500. Edwards is one of NASCAR's top drivers, and he has finished in the top ten in the last three Daytona 500s, but is still seeking his first win at the track.
