11 People Everybody Hates Traveling With

Regardless of whether you’re flying, taking a train, or catching a bus, there will always be people present to make your trip a living hell. Here are a few of those people.

11. The Kicker

We’ve all felt it. Thump. Thump. Thud. We’re just trying to sleep, alright? We aren’t even leaning back. It just happens that the kicker always strikes at the most inconvenient moment, whether you’re trying to sleep or taking a sip of water. Grrr.

10. The Lounger

It’s not just irritating people behind us we hate. We hate the people in front just as much when they lean their seat all the way back and take up all our room. Our meal table is small enough as it is! How do you expect us to eat? Or do anything, for that matter?

9. The Babbler

Stop it. No, I don’t want to hear your life story. No, I’m sure the other passenger on your other side doesn’t want to hear it either. What are you – wait – no – you don’t have cellular reception here, don’t call your co-worker – oh god what do you mean you have a global plan – ah, shit.

8. The Stinker

Somehow, some people present the image that they haven’t showered in days or weeks. Whether this is true or not, you’re the only one who knows, but it sure seems true to our noses. Please, for the love of God, please take better care of yourself. We’re all worried about you.

7. The Spiller

There’s no avoiding the spiller – what's worse is that you can always see it coming as they reach over you for their drink, and then suddenly, shit. Whether it’s food, water, juice, or beer, you can only watch in dread as it falls into your lap in slow motion. Thanks for the mess.

6. The Spreader

It’s hard to sleep when the person next to you is using up both armrests, and spreading their legs so wide they’re taking up half of your leg space. We get you don’t have a lot of space, but for that matter, you have to remember that we all have the same amount. NO STOP IT THIS IS MY PERSONAL BUBBLE.

5. The Creeper

Why is the person four rows in front of me continually turning around and making awkward eye contact? I’m going to close my eyes… are they gone? Shit. Still looking at me. What the hell? At the end of your trip, they might even loiter around the baggage claim to try to sneak in a word or two with you. Ugh. Creepy.

4. The Sleeper

Seemingly fine at first, halfway through their nap, the sleeper suddenly keels over and rests their head on your shoulder. Somehow, they remain unfazed, contently in dreamland, but you now have to deal with their weight. Should I be a nice person and not bother them? If I wake them up, will I seem like a jerk? The struggle is real.

3. The Complainer

Here we have the jackass beside us that thinks everybody else is beneath them and the attendants are their personal servants. Stop yelling, and stop pressing the call button every 30 seconds; nobody likes you. Your constant whining and voice-raising bothers everybody.

2. The Screamer

Are you a banshee or a human? Often a baby, this person’s piercing cries prevent us from doing anything at all, and it’s absolutely unstoppable. Once released, the screams cannot be contained, removing any chance at relaxation from all on board.

Okay, I might’ve lied in the title, because not everybody hates kids. But a lot of us d, so I have to say any more? Kids can either be a blessing or a curse on long trips, but more often than not, it’s the latter. Children are often an all-of-the-above character, and that should speak for itself.
