Northern California officials are barking up the tree at Pat and Mike Splinter (yes, that's their real name) to scale back their massive treehouse. This "tree-condo," which was recently featured on television, is 500-square feet, with a full kitchen, bathroom, and plumbing.

The Animal Planet show highlighted this luxury treehouse last month on Treehouse Masters. I bet they wish they didn't now!

Building laws in Northern California are causing authorities to question the legality of the Splinter's treehouse. They had already built a guest cottage on their property, and the full kitchen that they added to the treehouse as well as the mattress inside make it a residential structure, which isn't approved.

The structure was built by famous treehouse designer Pete Nelson to the tune of $60,000.

Check out the video for a tour inside their massive treehouse. For more information about the ongoing legal battles with treehouses check out this interesting resource.

Designed by the Treehouse Masters, and featured on the show in December, the California home is now under building coded scrutiny. Laws! Bahumbug. (Screenshot)
