HOW MUCH DO WE OWE TO INDIA?

India, when we hear this name, all we can think about is slums, poverty, saree-clad women and Bollywood. Full stop. But we know not that how much do we really owe to India.

Not many people are aware of the fact that chess, buttons, shampoo, number zero, and value of pi, trigonometry, algebra, calculus, cataract surgery, plastic surgery and diamond mining were the contribution of great Indian man.

    Imagine

Can you imagine shirts without buttons? Or can you clean your hair without any shampoo? Could Einstein have done any worthwhile calculations if we didn't know about the number zero? Could Hollywood stars have looked better if Sushruta hadn't made any important contributions in the field of reconstructive surgery?

The answer to each of these questions is a big NO. Because the truth is, if great Indian men such as Aryabhata, Sushruta, Nilakantha Somayaji, and Srinivasa Ramanujan, etc had not contributed in their respective fields, we would still be backward and possibly we would not have even reached the moon yet. Just picture that!

    Misconception and the reality

Mostly, when people hear the name 'India', all they can think about is poverty, slums, Taj Mahal, Kama Sutra, Saree-clad women, and Bollywood. Full stop. That is the typical image that pops up in one's head. But, India, oh she was so full of glory and had such a rich culture. India had everything one could dream of, and tons and tons of gold. But this was before the Mughals and the Britishers exploited India off her riches. Not only did they exploit her riches, but they also exploited its human and natural resources. And, they confiscated anything and everything they liked. But there was a plus side to it too, and that was that the rest of the world was introduced to the fine things India had to offer, all thanks to covetous East India Company.
