An American Philosopher Pretty Much Predicted The Future Scarily Accurately In 1998

People are describing an extract from Richard Rorty's writing as "tragically spot on".

An extract from a book by the American philosopher Richard Rorty was shared on Twitter a few days ago and has made many people feel uneasy, because it appears to predict the future.

A few paragraphs from Achieving Our Country: Leftist Thought in Twentieth-Century America were shared by Lisa Kerr on Twitter, and received over 3,500 retweets and over 3,000 likes.

People were pretty stunned by the predictions.

They think Rorty perfectly predicted Trump's win.

This user has described the extract as "incredibly prophetic".

And of course, people are being cheeky about it all.

What's perhaps most intriguing is the fact that Rorty goes on to argue that the left has to "put a moratorium on theory" in order to combat this leader.

.@coleenlisa Lots of people aren't going to like what Rorty has to say about how to solve that problem...

He goes on to add that the left should "try to mobilize what remains of our pride in being Americans. It should ask the public to consider how the country of Lincoln and Whitman might be achieved."
