What Happens When You Call Out Radical Feminists On Twitter

We objected to some transphobia at a recent UK conference, and then a LOT of radical feminists got lary. Warning: transphobia and misgendering ahead.

It all started fairly simply: we were approached by a feminist society at a University in the North East of England to publish an article they wrote about trans-inclusivity within feminism. Hearing their experiences, we said yes.

We soon found, however, that many radical feminists - who typically tend to be anti-trans*, as they believe that quite simply females are oppressed by males and no one can go between - are quite adept on social media.

HANDMAIDENS? Are we in a Margaret Atwood novel? Do I bow at the feet of my transgendered friends and kiss the manicured toes of them?

According to dictionary.reference.com the word 'Handmaiden' was first used in 1350 and, as we're running to send the press release off, was last used on Wednesday 22nd October by a keyboard warrior who believes we are in a dystopian universe.

Well ladies, it's been a good afternoon. We've had some laughs, we're cried, we've chatted, but I think we'll go back over here and stick to our all-inclusive, welcoming, male friendly feminism for a bit longer.
