To begin I want you to think of this scenario. Money is tight all around. You're working like most people and barely have enough money at the end of the month. Then one day out of the blue you decided to trust someone to owe you money. Could you do it? You might for a family member or a best friend but what about a complete stranger? Someone did and what happens next is amazing.
One guy who worked at a pizza shop part time did that. As the story goes, it was late on evening just before closing time when the customer called in to order a pizza. The note said the customer was paying cash. As it was almost closing time, the delivery driver decided to just pay for the pizza out of pocket and collect the cash from the customer. It would save him the trip coming back to drop off the money.
The pizza was ready about 30 minutes after the shop closed so he took it as the owner closed up for the night. When he got to the address of the customer, he parked and went up to the door, rang the bell and waited.
The customer came and answered. Suddenly the driver sees a problem. The customer has a credit card in hand and he can't call into the store to process the credit card as the shop is already closed. He explains this to the customer and says he's thinking of a solution. The customer didn't have cash on her.
Eventually he decides to just trust her. He tells her to keep the pizza and bring the cash into the store tomorrow. The next day he drops by the store to see if she dropped off the cash. She didn't. He still gave her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she's a bit busy. Anyway, he's not back to work until the weekend so he figures he'll check then.
Weekend rolls around and guess what? The lady didn't leave the money. Finally it's Sunday night and the owner comes up to him with an envelope. It's been exactly a week since he delivered the pizza to the lady.
He opens the envelope and inside restored his faith in humanity. It contained a thank-you card and a lot of cash.
The card explains that the lady (customer) was having dinner with her sister who is undergoing cancer treatment. That night the sister was just craving pizza and so the late call to try to make her wish come through and give her some love and light in her dark situation.
When the driver decided to leave the pizza, he unknowingly fulfilled the wishes of a very sick lady and her loyal sister. The customer said she will never forget his kindness in trusting her. And the cash in the envelope... it contained $104 while the cost of the pizza was only $33.
A single act of love in trusting one person impacted three lives.
