Released in 1995 “Common People” reached number 2 in the UK Singles Charts. It forever immortalised Central Saint Martins in the verse based on Jarvis Cocker’s time spent at the College on his BA (Hons) Film & Video:
“She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge, She studied sculpture at Saint Martins College, That’s where I caught her eye.”
As well as being an alumnus of UAL, Jarvis Cocker received an Honorary Award in 2011. In his speech he credits many of his ideas as a result of the time he spent at Central Saint Martins.
