    To celebrate the graduation of UAL’s class of 2016 – we pulled together a list of top 10 graduation songs by notable UAL alumni:

    Many would say the hard work starts now, but for one day let’s pause and celebrate that the long nights in the studio or library have finally paid off – you’re graduating and moving onto new horizons. The hauntingly-voiced Florence Welch attended Camberwell College of Arts for her foundation year.

    “Everyone’s a winner, we’re making that fame…” just imagine this beat in your head as you walk across that stage to collect your certificate – you’ll be hard pressed not to dance. The talented M.I.A (Mathangi Arulpragasam) attended Central Saint Martins.

    4. Common People – Pulp

    Released in 1995 “Common People” reached number 2 in the UK Singles Charts. It forever immortalised Central Saint Martins in the verse based on Jarvis Cocker’s time spent at the College on his BA (Hons) Film & Video:

    “She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge, She studied sculpture at Saint Martins College, That’s where I caught her eye.”

    As well as being an alumnus of UAL, Jarvis Cocker received an Honorary Award in 2011. In his speech he credits many of his ideas as a result of the time he spent at Central Saint Martins.

    You've lived in one of the most creative cities in the world and we hope you've had a blast. Silky voiced 90's R&B vocalist Des'ree attended Camberwell College of Arts between 1999 and 2003.

    6. ‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers – Jeff Beck

    We knew this day would come but we can’t lie, we’re a little heart broken to see you go. Jeff Beck captures this perfectly in his instrumental “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers.” Since attending Wimbledon College of Arts, Beck has appeared on albums by Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Morrissey, Jon Bon Jovi, Malcolm McLaren, and Kate Bush to name a few, and was ranked fifth in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

    You’ve shaken hands, you’ve posed for photos, and now it’s time to gather your friends for one last party to celebrate the end of your student days together. Glen Matlock, who did a Foundation at Central Saint Martins, was the bass guitarist in the original line-up of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols.

    Chosen purely for its irony – the overwhelming message is that your education will continue beyond your formal years and will flourish throughout your life. We hope you take everything you’ve learned here at UAL and make every success of your new artistic careers. We’ve included this in our list for Syd Barrett a founding member of the legendary band, Pink Floyd who attended Camberwell College of Arts.

    We know you’re heading to a greener future, so let Django Django take you there with their hit song from their latest album, Born Under Saturn. David Maclean, drummer and producer of Django Django graduated from Chelsea College of Arts in 2007 with an MA in Fine Art.
