If you find the significant other that you just can’t live without, that you desperately want to spend the rest of your life with--and you know they want the same--a proposal can’t be far off. 1. Where you first met.

If your significant other takes you to that place you first met, accept this proposal. While this may seem cliché and overdone, it’s way too personal to be repeated.

Taking your significant other out to the place where you first went to dinner, or to that place they first laid eyes on you: what is more romantic than that?

It tells you that they not only remember the little things, but that they appreciate and cherish them just as much as you do.

2. Your favorite location.

Again, this may not seem like much, but it really can be. The person that loves you enough to marry you is bound to know your favorite spots, and by planning out an entire date where you hit every location until eventually they drop down on one knee just sounds like a dream come true.

Of course, sometimes people send their significant others out on scavenger hunts where they hit every location alone and meet a new friend at each that gives them the next clue until eventually, they come to find their partner on one knee at the place that means the most.

There are countless ways to do this one, so definitely accept this proposal.

3. In an elaborate dance.

For some reason, the dancing proposal is spreading, and it should be: planning something that elaborate and having the patience to work on a proposal for this long should certainly be rewarded.

Plus, there are a variety of ways to make it personal. You can use their favorite song, do it at their favorite location or the place you met, incorporate dance moves that make them laugh--the possibilities really are endless.

So long as this is a personal and fun proposal, it is one worth accepting.

4. With a movie trailer.

I can’t believe that this is a thing, but it really is, and I’m jealous of everyone that this happens to. This is a more expensive proposal, but if you’ve got the cash to burn and endless creativity, hats off to you.

Most people make a romantic, sappy love story preview, including themselves and their significant others and pay to have them advertised as a trailer before a movie at the local movie theater.

Of course, I’d say make this as personal as possible: if they are an action junky, go this route. Musicals, comedies, dramas, etc., make your trailer as customized as you possibly can. Go big or go home, right?

If you are proposed to by a movie trailed played for everyone to see and your partner is kneeling next to you when it’s over with a ring, I will judge you if you don’t accept it.

5. The classic.

For some reason, people forget how amazing this can be. To just unexpectedly get down on one knee and propose to the person you love, no extra extravagance needed, what beats that?

Maybe get dressed up for a nice anniversary dinner and pop the question while you’re walking home, or maybe even when you are watching TV together and your partner is in sweats and a t-shirt.

This proposal is for a lifetime together, and what better way to show you’re ready for that than to ask them in one of the most romantic ways possible?

You shouldn’t need extravagance to say yes, so the classic proposal is always worth accepting.

6. The ring in the food.

Seriously dude, are you trying to choke her? While I understand that this sounds cute, and maybe it’s a perfect proposal for some people out there, I’m going to go ahead and say turn this one down.

For one thing, you shouldn’t be messing with other people’s food. It’s gross. Another thing, what if they don’t see it?! If they’re anything like me, that cheesecake is about to be devoured in a few bites, and they won’t stop for anything, including a diamond.

So the whole “I’ll stick a ring in their food” idea is a solid no. Just no.

7. At a sporting event.

I love sports. I don’t miss a Blackhawks game if I can help it and going to the games is an added bonus. However, proposing on the jumbotron is a no go.

The main reason: everyone does it. Plus, it will forever be plagued with the most awkward rejections ever, and who wants that negativity?

As if that wasn’t enough, the guy with the nachos behind you is crunching so loudly you can’t stand it, and crumbs are spewing everywhere.

Is this really the backdrop you want for your proposal? No. Always turn this proposal down.

8. At a wedding.

If you propose during someone else’s wedding reception, you failed. Miserably.

Your lack of creativity shows. I mean really, you’re going to propose at a wedding? Why don’t you just bring her a wedding dress and take over the ceremony yourselves?

Not only are you intruding on someone else’s big day, but you are showing your future wife/husband that you don’t know how to think for yourself.

Go home and think of a better proposal. And nobody accept this proposal. Just don’t.

9. Through a text.

I seriously couldn’t believe this when I saw it, but it’s the real deal. People actually do this. Let us all judge them together for a minute.

If you can’t even propose to your partner in person, should you really be getting married? I’d put money on the fact that texting proposals will end in divorce.

I mean seriously: a text? While the diamond ring emoji may seem like a good idea, I promise you it isn’t. Do not accept this proposal unless you’re looking for a partner that couldn’t care less.

10. Drunken proposal.

While you may find that being drunk makes you do stupid things, I think this one really takes the wedding cake. If you aren’t sober, don’t propose.

That should probably be self explanatory, but for some reason it isn’t. So let me be more clear: do not pop the question when you have inhaled so much alcohol you no longer have the ability to see how bad of an idea this is.

If you are drunkenly proposed to, you don’t even need to say no. Just walk right out of that relationship. Even the drunk will understand when they sober up.

A marriage proposal should be a big deal, and settling for less than you want isn’t right. So don’t be afraid to turn down a proposal you aren’t happy with. This is your wedding, so make every part of it count.
