10 Things To Do Before "The Taken King" Is Released

Veteran guardians prepare yourselves. You may think maxing out at level 34 has you set for the new DLC September 15, but here is a list of ten things you're going to want to do before Oryx arrives.

    10. Level up the Cryptarch

In year two of Destiny with the expansion "The Taken King" the cryptarch will now offer legendary engrams. Although drops from engrams are random, we're all hoping for an exotic, and having a higher ranking can't hurt your odds.

    9. Earn or Purchase exotics.

In the new DLC all pre-owned exotics will become blueprints to unlock similar year two exotics with new upgrade goals. You want to have as many as possible so that you won't be hunting for "old" exotics and you can focus on new releases.

    8. Keep all of your valuable weapons and armor.

None of us have room to keep every rare and uncommon drop we get, but in year two of Destiny the more valuable old gear has a very special purpose. For veteran players, your guardian's new year two level will be determined by the quality and quantity of gear you have. Also, your lesser used weapons can be used in year two to upgrade other weapons to increase their power and abilities.

    7. Earn Vanguard and Crucible Marks.

In year two Vanguard and Crucible marks will be interchangeable, becoming a single currency, legendary marks. This allows players to play the way they like and still get the gear they want. The cap will still be at 200 at a time, however, players will be able to earn more than 200 marks in a week in year two.

    6. Save your Motes of Light.

The Speaker will be bringing some new gear to The Tower in year two, including bonds, cloaks, and marks with upgradeable abilities. No more vanity accessories, time for business. So stop giving all of your motes of light to Xur!

    5. Earn some Glimmer!

Also available at The Speaker will be ghost shells priced at 20,000 glimmer. With the currency cap at 25,000 you should still be able to save up enough to have a cool personalized ghost right off the bat!

    4. Choose a Faction!

If you haven't already now is a great time to align yourself with one of the three factions at the tower. In year two there will be new gear to earn and Bungie has promised that packages for leveling up will be more personalized and fruitful!

    3. Convince a friend to purchase the game.

Every person who plays "The Taken King" will be getting a special gift. Something called a "Spark of Light" each player gets one. It is used to boost a new character to 25 or, one of the new subclasses. There is no reason not to get everyone on board when it's that easy to jump into year two with a new player.

    2. Enjoy that Gjallarhorn.

After Xur's Gjallarhorn sale last week, almost everyone who currently plays the game is sure to have one. While there are not specific plans to nerf the weapon, there has been discussion about the release of new and better guns that will make this exotic less of a helping hand, and more of a year one relic.

    1. Prepare for the Vault.

In Bungie's Twitch reveal of year two we found out that vault space will be doubled. With new organizational tabs, it will be easier than ever to store and keep track of all the treasure you've earned. So don't throw anything away!
