Area man Tony da Costa knew that Oakland Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray was no sleeper and that he would have to draft him earlier than most experts had him ranked. However, he elected to draft Tony Cingrani in the 12th round, hoping that Gray would fall to him in the 13th.
"Cingrani just had RP eligibility, that's all. If I had known Gray was literally going next, I totally would have taken him over Cingrani," Said Tony, shaking his head.
Recalling his late season acquisition of last year's rookie call up, Tony added, "Man he was so good for me down the stretch. I used to say, "SONNY IS MONEY!' Godamnit."
When asked if he would try to make a trade offer to acquire Gray from Todd, Tony retorted, "Psh, unlikely. Did you see how far that ass hole reached for him? He values him way too much, it would never be a fair deal."
