Rap Beef: Macklemore Disses Iggy And Other Deceptive Headlines

In the fight for injustice, Macklemore's new song called "White Privilege II", poses the question: "What is the role of a white person in this struggle?" So... why is the trending topic a refocusing on Iggy Azalea's reaction?

"Yoooo, Macklemore came out with a diss track." This headline and more like it has populated Facebook's trending conversation for the past couple of hours. After glancing at similar posts in my feed from shares that were beginning to go viral, I came across a post that countered it all, with little to no likes or shares.

The poster's words were my sentiments in a nutshell, but it was lost in a pile of click baiting posts. Posts that glorified and misinterpreted a line that was less than a percent of an almost 8 minute song; Posts that focused on tearing down the intention of the creator of the song's message; Posts that mirrored every sensationalization that can be seen when we regularly watch the news; Posts that distort what we should focus on while painting a picture on the negative imagery we should make a trending topic. Unfortunately, that is the norm and how do you challenge normalities when "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't".

The aforementioned sliver of a bar, in its full context, was meant to be a realization of Macklemore's self. At the very least, it shines a light on others that share in the benefits he acknowledges in receiving; at the most it analyzes what the benefits of the experience is comparable to, but all in all its focus is on the privilege of having privilege.

Unfortunately, in the reviews, the perceived "diss" toward Iggy Azalea wasn't the only issue some posters had. Some equated this song, similarly to the moment that Macklemore Instagrammed a message to Kendrick Lamar, apologizing for winning a grammy over him. To that I say, "its not for me to analyze intentions" but to lift up the message.
