Student At Bowdoin College Arrested On A Charge Of Sexual Assault

A student at the Bowdoin College, a prestigious liberal arts school in Maine, was arrested on the morning of May 24th on a charge of gross sexual assault, a Class A felony.

The on-campus security guards received a call at 2:34am on Sunday, May 24th, from a 20-year-old female student requesting a ride. The student also expressed concern for a friend whom she had been with earlier in the night.

Once security arrived at the student's location, the student revealed that the aforementioned friend of hers, 21-year-old Logan Taylor, had raped her earlier that night. Upon this admission, the campus security turned the alleged victim over to the local police.

According to the unidentified student, she and Taylor had been eating pizza and drinking alcohol in a dormitory room before Taylor carried her into a bedroom and began engaging in sexual intercourse with her. The Portland Press Herald, a newspaper printed in the largest city in Maine, stated that the alleged victim did not fight back or verbally resist Taylor's actions; however, she did not give consent. The student was escorted to a local hospital.

Taylor is currently being held on bail at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. His bail was initially set to $1,000 but has since been increased o $5,000. His trial is set for July 21st. If found guilty of gross sexual assault, Taylor could face up to 30 years behind bars.

Bowdoin College has taken action in response to the alleged attack, though the institution has not yet made an official public statement. In an email with the Portland Press Herald, spokesman Doug Cook said, "We are assisting the police in their investigation, and focusing on the safety and well-being of our students and other members of the college community."
