When sports are mentioned usually we tend to think of the mainstream sports such as football or cricket.

But have you ever heard of Bossaball or Shin Kicking?

No, I thought not.

Obviously not something the usual person would tend to be in to, but you never know, extreme ironing may just be your thing and you haven't even realised yet.

#15 Quidditch.

If any of you Harry Potter fans out there are reading this, yes, Quidditch is now classed as an official sport. I shouldn't need to state the obvious, but no one is flying about in mid air, but there is a keeper, a beater, chasers and a seeker (for all of you none Potter folk).

It's basically a mixture of Tag and dodgeball whilst running around with a broomstick in between your legs, throw in a toy helipcopter flying around and you have the

Muggle* version of Quidditch.

This game is actually confined to college campus's usually across Britain and America, but you can find clubs as well in America outside an academic background.

This sport helps to bring a Potter heads fantasy to life rather than just sweeping the floor with their broomstick.

*Muggle – a word used in Harry Potter to describe none magic folk.

#14 Moustache growing.

Not so much a sport, but weird nonetheless. Each year the World Beard and Moustache Association (WBMA) host a competition where men show off their highly styled and/or their lengthy beards and moustaches. The National competition was last held in Brooklyn, New York in 2015.

By most it is seen as just a hobby – or laziness to remove ones facial hair – but to the competitors and facial hair fanatics it shows that the competitor has patience, they look powerful and also well groomed, - It's not as easy as it looks to grow a beard or moustache that impressive.

#13 Roller Derby.

A sport which is mainly dominated by women, one in which you must have speed, balance and agility at the bare minimum to succeed, the Roller Derby.

Two teams of five players race around a track, one person in each team is dubbed the a "jammer" and it is their job to score points by lapping players on the other team, the other four players on each team are dubbed as "blockers". This sport is offensive and defensive simultaneously.

Why play it? Simple!

Not only is it keeping you super fit but helps you work together as a team. It can also help you when venting your anger if you're a naturally angry person.

#12 Bossaball.

The rules of this are simple; it's basically like volleyball, football and gymnastics but you're jumping on an inflatable surface - i.e. a bouncy castle - and you can kick the ball over the net as well as hit it over. There are two teams, each having 3–5 players both sides and a team will score when they hit the ball over the net and it hits the ground… just like volleyball.

The sport was developed from 2003-2005 and was created by Filip Eyckmans, a Belgian born, former young tennis player, living in Spain. Eyckmans also dj'd at football matches as well which helped him to build an idea for such a fun sport.

There are so many known celebrities which have been linked to the sport, such as; John McEnroe, Ronaldinho and Robinho and Robbie Williams.

#11 Cardboard tube dueling.

Did any of you play with cardboard tubes as a kid with their friends or a sibling maybe? Well, if you didn't you haven't lived. And for some youngsters they grew up to be just that; cardboard tube duelers. I'm not joking.

The Cardboard Tube Fighting League (CTFL) is known globally and cardboard tube fighting events are held every year in Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, California; and Sydney, Australia.

The concept of this sport is to break your opponents cardboard tube by hitting it with yours but without damaging your own tube.

This sport is welcome to anyone above the age of five and it also focuses on the theatrics behind it and most people tend to dress in cardboard costumes whilst they fight.

This sport helps to keep you young minded, helps you not to take things to seriously and helps to include everyone. Can you find anything wrong in that?

#10 Dog surfing.

This sport is for the animal lovers out there. This just shows how impressive animals are today and it gives further proof of their capabilities.

As we all know, dogs are famous for the doggy paddle but now they're known for sporting a surf board as well. Dogs are trained to surf alone but also surf alongside their owners as well.

This mainly takes place over Southern California and first began in San Diego, which won't surprise that many people.

Most competitions which take place will charge for owners to enter their dog, but the money goes towards doggy bags, a medal for participation and a donation to the sponsors of the event, all of which are usually to help out dogs homes across the City and other animal charities.

#9 Chess boxing.

The clue is in the title, the contestants play chess as well as boxing. They will need a sharp mind to go alongside a sharp jab. I'm only assuming that they'll be mentally drained by the end of the match from all of the blows to the head and trying to focus afterwards to try and beat their opponent mentally.

Not your usually heard of sport, but still, it's exciting and brings in a huge crowd.

#8 Unicycle polo.

As if playing ordinary polo wasn't difficult enough whilst riding something with four legs. But riding something with one wheel, trying to maintain balance and throwing some mallets and a ball into the mix and you've got something truly spectacular.

The rules for normal polo apply other than you cannot hit the ball unless you are on the unicycle. If you are in the process of falling when you go to hit the ball make sure you stop your body from touching the floor until the very last second… Not dangerous at all!

#7 Toe wrestling.

Unless you have a big liking for feet I'm fairly certain a lot of people will be a bit taken aback by this event, yet it still isn't the strangest sport of them all.

Forget your WWE and your Mexican wrestling, actually, forget all of the wrestling your mind can think of except for an old school thumb war.

If any of you are looking to try this out, grab a partner and sit facing each other and simply interlock your toes. You then have to move your feet from either side trying to pin the opponents foot to the floor, sounds weird, right?

It is also customary for the players to removes each other's shoes and socks prior to the game.

There is no prize money for this competition, but from both the women's division and the men's the earnings from running the event go to the "Wish upon a star", an organisation set up to take sick children on holiday.

#6 Man V Horse Marathon.

As mad as it sounds, in the small town of Llanwrtyd Wells, people actually race against horses to see who will come out on top.

So far only two people have won the event which works out great for them - the money from the previous races is carried over each year until there is a winner. The first ever winner – in 2004, 24 years after the marathon began – took home £25,000.

Maybe give this a go to prove to everyone that you're faster than an animal with four legs.

#5 Gurning.

A contest for people which weren't blessed with fortunate good looks, but for people who can make their faces protrude and bulge in ways to make them terrifyingly ugly.

This contest originates back to the UK in 1297 at the Egremont Crab Fair where people paraded their best 'gurn' for people and judges to see.

In modern times there is a yearly competition for this event and many people are now entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.

#4 Wife Carrying.

This sport is essentially to test a man's strength. It is when male competitors carry a female – a wife – through a 235.5m course. The wife should weigh at least 49 kilograms and if dropped the male faces a 15 second penalty.

The course is diverse and is on land, water, mud, and over numerous objects.

If you need another reason to take part in this race other than to prove how strong you are the prize is a mobile phone and your wife's body weight in beer.

Who could possibly say no to that?

#3 Kite Tubing.

Probably the most dangerous sport on this list. Kite tubing is done on water on tubes which at high speeds will be lifted into the air and the competitors need to stay aboard the tube for as long as possible.

Kite tubing has been known to cause many injuries as well as a couple of deaths since the sport began.

Mostly done in America now, a lot of States have now banned kite tubing due to many fatalities.

Is there really any reason why anyone should do this 'sport'?

#2 Shin Kicking.

I'm unsure whether to actually include this in the list, especially this high up. But I find it deserving of this place due to how ridiculous it is.

Shin kicking actually has links to wrestling, therefore, the federation who originally brought us shin kicking have applied to be an official Olympic sport. All they need to do is prove that men take part in 75 Countries and on four Continents and women in 40 countries on three continents.

It actually sounds like a cracking sport and if entered into the Olympic games then there's no way people could cheat, i.e. doping, and it can also give 'Team GB' a chance to win at something which it created.

#1 Extreme ironing.

Not the most obvious of choices but yet, still deserving of our top spot.

The official description of this sport from the 'Extreme Ironing Bureau' is: "the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well pressed shirt."

Where is the wildest place you can think of to do your ironing? A cave? A Kayak in the middle of the sea? On top of a mountain?

Extreme ironing has probably been done in all of those places.

This sport was originated in the UK and gets a surprising amount of coverage, maybe due to stupidity? Who knows.
