    Paul Ryan's Political Televangelism™

Never underestimate the power of blue eyes and the ability to vacantly recite Heritage Foundation talking points

They say people get the government they deserve. I suppose a Romeny/Ryan presidency is representative of the completely oblivious and criminal state this country is in. Romney introduced Paul Ryan Saturday while attacking Obama for cutting Medicare. That takes some balls. I don't even know if the right wing in this country is just not paying attention or if they don't actually understand the platform of their own candidates. The people at the rally were just incredible. Ryan screams "our freedoms are god given, not government given" and everyone cheers but then chants "USA USA USA." Why not chant "JE-SUS! JE-SUS! JE-SUS!"?

Ezra Klein in the Washington Post pointed out the curiosity of the pick, saying Paul Ryan's the one guy who makes both parties feel they have a better chance of winning. But I say never underestimate the power of blue eyes and the ability to vacantly recite Heritage Foundation talking points when it comes to energizing republican voters. Because there's no reasoning with those people and it was overwhelmingly obvious even during the short announcement. It's the "keep your government hands off my medicare!" crowd. Which is really the brilliance of it. There's no way to reason with someone who keeps themselves willfully ignorant of the terms needed to argue a point. Ignorance is strength, war is peace. Paul Ryan is probably the most outspoken person in congress when it comes to dismantling Medicare, and Romney introduces him by condemning Obama for destroying Medicare. And they cheer. It's mind-boggling. There are a lot of issues I can sympathize with conservatives on. What's incredible is that republicans are nominating the very people they'd hate if they would bother to do any research on them. Paul Ryan has zero private sector experience, his financial voting record is shameful even by his standards, and Mitt Romney would sell the highways and outsource congress if he could find a way to, he's a poster child for everything wrong with this country. If people want to vote for conservative policies that's fine, I can understand that. What's contemptible is the way they're being led like cattle into nominating these people. It's like political televangelism. These guys are just old-fashion shysters. At the start of the election everyone knew that GOP voters would just pick the two most 'presidential looking' guys around. Their political party's icon is a goddamned television actor. I don't know why they even bother to hold primaries.

I've developed a method for deducing the next star republican. Look for the most hollow-eyed, double talking, confident and clean looking aryan s.o.b. on the floor who claims to be voting against his principles in order to maintain his ideology...
