Does Modern Politics Need a Facelift?

Are you sick of the status quo? Do you wish the Prime Minister was someone 'normal'? Or do you enjoy boring old Westminister?

Do you wish Miliband was more Marlon Brando, or Cameron was more Kurt Cobain? Well I certainly don't. Saturating my social media this week were a group of selfie-obsessed twitterites. Whether it was the maniac "Millifans" or the crazy "Cameronettes" I could not hide from their propaganda.

Even although I do not supports this new 'facelift' of politics, where politicians are part time celebrities and part time legislating officers, I can somewhat understand the allure. For years, young people have been staring into the political system sluggish eyed looking up to the most boring of role models. Then come along fresh faced politicians: the David Cameron's, the Nicola Sturgeon's and somehow politics changes in the news from what their policies are to what they are wearing - it is obscene! Do people really care more about whether Sturgeon is wearing 'that' yellow dress today or do they want to know if she will trash the economy? I know which one I care more about, and yes the yellow does suit her.

But all joking aside, the political system facelift will be to the detriment of the people in Britain. A time where politicians live in fear for being judged on their looks, is a time where our political system becomes unreliable. In all began in 1997 with the introduction of smiley faced Blair. Oh, my, god! A politician that was actually relatable and could connect to many across the nation? Good gosh, I would have never imagined such a fine specimen could fall into the mundane political trap! But Blair did something no other politician dreamed of doing - being normal.

Therefore, the new facelift of politics must not try emulate the star-struck hills of hollywood. Instead politicians are politicians, there job is to legislate government policy and legislate government policy they will. I am all for making our members of parliament a true representation of us out there. But please, please lets stop this fan based nonsense that is filling up my social media. Thank You.
