Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, this sports-drama is about the life of a small-town wrestler who makes it big.     Mohenjo Daro, slated to release on 12 August 2016, has created a buzz with its trailer itself. This is Ashutosh Gowariker’s fourth period movie, based on the prehistoric Indus Valley civilization. The glam factor of the movie is high, with Hrithik Roshan in the lead, starring opposite Pooja Hegde, and AR Rahman’s music is yet another factor to look forward too. But, criticisms have already started pouring in, based on the trailer. Will Gowariker be true to the era’s idiosyncrasies? Or will this turn out to just a fairytale?

    The second big release of August 2016 is Rustom, schedule be in theatres on 12 August 2016. It is a romantic thriller directed by Neeraj Pandey, and is based on the experience of Naval Officer KM Nanavati. Akshay Kumar will be seen playing the lead role, while Illeana D’Cruz will star opposite him as the female lead. Besides looking forward to another thriller by Akshay Kumar, fans are also waiting for the colab of Jeet Ganguly with Ankit Tiwari, Raghav Sachar and Arko Pravo Mukherjee for the music.

    MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, ready for a 2 September 2016 release, is a sports biopic that all cricket fans among Bolly-buffs are excited about. It is based on the life of the current captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni; his struggles and his journey will be portrayed on screen, with Sushant Singh Rajput playing the role of Dhoni. Kiara Advani will play the role of the cricketer’s wife, Sakshi Dhoni. Other actors in the film are Ram Charan, Anupam Kher, Fawad Khan, John Abraham, Zayed Khan and Manjot Singh.

    Another upcoming Bollywood movie to be released this year is Pink, which hits screen on 16 September 2016. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is calling the shots as the director of the movie, and Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in the role of a lawyer, playing the lead in this thriller drama. The shooting began on International Women’s Day, 2016. Bachchan shot for the movie on the streets of Delhi, and went completely unrecognized. Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Taring will also be seen.

    One of the most coveted movies of 2016 is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, a star-studded film, in every way. This is his second release of the year, besides Baar Baar Dekho, and will be in theatres on 28 October 2016.     November 2016 is going to be a month of sequels, and first of these sequels is Rock On!! 2. Scheduled to release on 11 November 2016, the Sujaat Saudagar directed rok musical drama will feature Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai and Shahana Goswami, who will reprise their roles from Rock On!!, while Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora are the new additions. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy will compose the soundtrack, and Bolly-philes are waiting to see if the film will rock as much as the first edition!

The sequel will have Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Ashim Gulati in the lead, while Ankit Tiwari is the music composer.     The nail-biting mystery thriller, Kahaani, has been one of the biggest Bollywood hits of recent years. In November, director Sujoy Ghosh will be bringing the sequel of the movie in the form of Kahaani 2. Scheduled to release on 25 November 2016, this upcoming movie will have Vidya Balan in the lead once again, alongside Arjun Rampal this time.     The year will come to an end with the most-awaited film of 2016, Dangal, slated to reach the theatres on 23 December 2016. It is a biopic, based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. Aamir Khan has undergone remarkable physical transformation to portray the role of Mahavir, and it is already grabbing eyeballs. Babita’s role will be played by Suhani Bhatnagar (child) and Sanya Malhotra, and Geeta Phogat, by Zaira Wasim (child) and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Other pivotal roles in the film will be played by Sakshi Tanwar and Rajkummar Rao.

    Many other Bollywood films are slated to release this year, such as Happy Bhaag Jayegi, Great Grand Masti, Dishoom, Nonsense, and JD in July; Banjo, and A Flying Jatt in August; Baar Baar Dekho, Akira, and Manmarziyan in September; Mirzya, and Shivaay in October; Wajah Tum Ho and Befikre in December.
