    16 Things You Realize When Running A Small Opera Company

    The Secret Opera is a new opera company that aims to startle, provoke, and intrigue through unusual interpretations of operatic works. Their first concert, The Secret Song, is May 4th at 3 PM at the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua, and they've got some sick, sexy, and sultry songs to sing for ya! But there were a few things to learn about running a new company before things could really get started...

    1. It's really easy to get excited in the beginning.

    2. Then a lot of questions start popping up about licensing and fees and percentage earnings for performances.

    3. Google becomes your best friend.

    4. You find out that everything is really, really expensive.

    5. So you ask all your friends/family for money...

    6. Then you realize that scheduling a bunch of busy, talented, classical musicians is a little complicated.

    7. You finally find a rehearsal date that works for everyone! Only to find out the rehearsal space is no longer available.

    8. You're on the brink of getting fired from your real job because all you ever do there is work on your opera company.

    9. Sometimes you begin to wonder why you even bothered to take this on at all.

    10. But then you sit in on rehearsal and hear how good the orchestra sounds...

    11. ... and realize you're getting to work with some of the most amazing contemporary composers ever...

    12. Plus you're a little bit in love with your music director for his badassery throughout the whole rehearsal process.

    13. So while you still want to rage when things unexpectedly go wrong...

    14. ... you realize your love of opera makes it all worth it.

    15. And you've got the greatest team ever to help you make it happen.
