Mobile Monday

Since we live in an increasingly mobile world, the Nature Conservancy wants to make charity as mobile as we are in our day-to-day lives. So we’re joining the movement started by MobileMonday Silicon Valley and launching a new holiday on Monday, December 15th, called #MobileMonday. We’re working together to spread the message about the many ways people can get involved with non-profits via mobile technology. Whether it’s making a donation from your phone, downloading an app that helps connect you to nature through trail maps, or simply signing up to receive text alerts from your favorite organization, there are many ways to get connected to charities on mobile. To kick off the campaign, mGive, a mobile engagement and fundraising platform, is hosting a live Twitter chat at 1pm ET on Monday, December 15th, addressing how technology can power social good. The Nature Conservancy is partnering with mGive to bring together the mobile, technology, and non-profit communities to raise awareness and address some of the most pressing challenges in today’s world. Don’t forget to save the date and use the hashtag: December 15th is #MobileMonday – a day when we can all use technology to help make a difference. And to get you started, here are some ways environmental organizations are already using mobile for good:

Download WeChat and follow Nature_org to help The Nature Conservancy save critically endangered species like sea turtles. For each new sign-up through the end of the year, WeChat USA will donate $5 to the Conservancy, for up to $1 million in support.

Use #NatureIsSpeaking on Twitter to start a conversation on social media and help Conservation International protect nature for people. Every time you do, HP will give $1 to Conservation International, up to $1 million dollars.

Environmental Defense Fund's Seafood Selector can be used while shopping at the grocery store. It empowers you, as a consumer, to make smart and environmentally responsible choices that help put an end to decades of overfishing.

The WWF Together app brings the world's most amazing animals straight to your mobile device. The app teaches you all about a wide variety of species in a fun and interactive way and also offers ways to help protect these animals.

The Audubon Birds app, created by Audubon Guides, in alliance with the National Audubon Society, is a comprehensive digital field guide to North American birding. Designed to be used by both experienced and novice birders, this app contains detailed information on hundreds of species, including maps and bird sounds. Plus, a portion of sales support the mission of the National Audubon Society.
