A Sri Lankan man has died while trying to set a record for the longest time spent buried alive. And no, it isn’t Ryan Reynolds.
Local Police said Janaka Basnayake, 24, buried himself with the help of his family and friends in a trench about 137 miles north of Colombo. Reporters claimed the trench was 10 feet deep.
Basnayake was buried around 9:30 a.m.. Police said that he was brought to the surface at 4 p.m. and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His family said that Basnayake enjoyed performing unusual acts since his childhood.
Whether or not there is an official world record for longest time buried alive remains unclear.
