These Guys Want To Get The NHS To Number 1 For Christmas

After all, there's no chance it'll be 4th Impact now..

Campaigners are attempting to nab the NHS Choir a Christmas Number 1 this winter, with bookies already shortening odds on the health service being Top of the Pops on December 25.

The project, which is the brainchild of NHS freelancer Joe Blunden, Dr Harriet Nerva and Dr Katie Rogerson, is aimed at celebrating and showing support for the health service, with all the proceeds from sales being shared between Carers UK, Mind and some smaller charities.

Oddschecker.com, which collates betting odds from all the top bookies, shows the NHS choir is considered a definite contender for Christmas Number 1, along with the winner of the X Factor, Adele, Justin Bieber and Eagles of Death Metal.

Songs with an emotional theme have provided a brief respite from the Simon Cowell's usual domination of the coveted top spot in recent years. The Military Wives choir, composed of servicewomen, wives and partners from the armed forces were victorious in 2011, while the Justice Collective, which raised money for victims of the Hillsborough disaster, had the top song in 2012.

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS choir, who form the backbone of the singers, were also the runners up in the BBC series with Gareth Malone, 'Sing While You Work'.

And what about the song itself? Well, it's a mash-up of 'Fix You' by Coldplay (ah well) and Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. It's available now, but the choir is asking that listeners wait until December 19 to download it so it counts towards the total for the Christmas poll. You can watch the video on YouTube now.
