10 Terrible Misconceptions About Florida

I swear tourists have no idea where they actually are.

1. Christopher Columbus landed in Florida!

He didn't. He actually landed in the Bahamas.

Note: The Bahamas are not a part of Florida.

2. Disney World is in Orlando!

It's not. It's in Lake Buena Vista.

Although Disney also has their own town called Celebration. So the case can be made that it is actually in Celebration. Still...it's more than twenty mins outside of Orlando.

Shocking...I know.

3. Miami is "just like New York but with better weather!"

It's not. There is no subway. You need to drive. Everyone speaks Spanish. There is no central area.

Also...the weather's not that great.

We have hurricanes down here.

4. It's spring break all the time!

6. It's the Sunshine State so it must be sunny all the time!

In the Summer, it rains every afternoon.

Like it pours...

I give you the world's happiest place...in the rain.

It hurts doesn't it.

7. You guys must go to the beach all the time!

Wrong. Florida is home to wild Alligators...

They like to chill on golf courses.

Snakes...

And a bunch of other things that can kill you...

9. Florida's so great!

But it's actually sort of terrifying...

10. And, country to popular belief, there's not much to do here.

Unless you're over 60 and play golf.
