    Treepot Cliffhanger: A Cinematic Chain Letter

    A group of mercenaries find themselves in over their heads in the first chapter that kicked off a year-long collaborative indie film project put together by filmmaker Jith Paul of Treepot Media. The concept was new to the area. A jury comprised of Adele Cardamone-Martel (CBC), Jeff Hopper (CTV) and Jeremy Atherton (Algonquin College) reviewed auditions and chose 5 filmmakers to participate in the Treepot Cliffhanger, a collaborative film project with a catch. Each filmmaker’s chapter had to continue the story set it motion by the previous chapter’s director to make a cinematic chain letter. Production on the chapters began in March 2013 featuring local talent in front of and behind the camera and with the support of Affinity Productions, SAW Video, Kublacom Pictures, Parktown and Jennifer Mulligan who providing the filmmakers with over $5,000 of equipment, facilities and services. The five chapters from Ottawa directors Chris Chitaroni, Kristian Lariviere, Keith Wiggins, Luca Fiore and Derek Price enjoyed their theatrical premiere at the historic Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa on June 25th and are now streaming online and are available DVD. The Treepot Cliffhanger series was recently named an “under-the-radar series to check out” by the Tubefilter.com Indie Spotlight and covered in MetroNews Ottawa and in the Toronto-based blog A Quarter Young.
