Let's get right to it. Liam Payne just released a new song called "Both Ways," which — you guessed it — is about bisexuality.
When I first heard the former One Direction singer had a bisexual-themed song on his new album, I was all for it 👀...until I heard the cringe-worthy lyrics 🥴.
On the track, Liam sings about dating a woman who is bisexual. "My girl, she like it both ways. She like the way it all taste," he croons.
But wait. There's more. "Couple more, we’ll call it foreplay. No, no, I don’t discriminate. Bring it back to my place," he sings.
As if that weren't enough, Liam goes on to sing about how the woman says they're both "young and stupid" and therefore should indulge in sexual activities "you won't believe."
Well, I wasn't the only one who found the song reductive. Many in the bisexual community took to Twitter to call out Liam over the song, and, tbh, valid points were made.
Here are just a few of the reactions to "Both Ways," which sparked the hashtag #LiamPayneIsOverParty:
This person tweeted they were "disappointed" but "not surprised":
Others used the opportunity to call for more acceptance of the bisexual community:
This person summed it up perfectly, tweeting, "We aren't your toys, honey."
Liam has yet to respond to the controversy, but here's hoping he heard the message loud and clear: bisexuals are not to be fetishized.
