People Are Upset By Liam Payne's New Bisexual-Themed Song, And I Can't Blame Them

    Not cool.

Let's get right to it. Liam Payne just released a new song called "Both Ways," which — you guessed it — is about bisexuality.

When I first heard the former One Direction singer had a bisexual-themed song on his new album, I was all for it 👀...until I heard the cringe-worthy lyrics 🥴.

On the track, Liam sings about dating a woman who is bisexual. "My girl, she like it both ways. She like the way it all taste," he croons.

But wait. There's more. "Couple more, we’ll call it foreplay. No, no, I don’t discriminate. Bring it back to my place," he sings.

As if that weren't enough, Liam goes on to sing about how the woman says they're both "young and stupid" and therefore should indulge in sexual activities "you won't believe."

Well, I wasn't the only one who found the song reductive. Many in the bisexual community took to Twitter to call out Liam over the song, and, tbh, valid points were made.

Here are just a few of the reactions to "Both Ways," which sparked the hashtag #LiamPayneIsOverParty:

my sexuality is not your fuccking fetish, I'm disgusted how straight people still think bi women (and bi people in general) are only worth your sex fantasies, fucck off if you still support him after this #liampayneisoverparty

#liampayneisoverparty we knew this one was coming for YEARS. knew it right after he backlashed Harry for dressing the way he does and being who he wants. the lgbqt+ community is NOT for your fetish. to see young women, men, or ANYONE being sexualized like that is disgusting.

This person tweeted they were "disappointed" but "not surprised":

as a bisexual woman, i’ve been sexualised so many times bc of my sexuality, i expect it now, but what i didn’t expect is for liam a former member of the band that was once my everything to write a song about it. disappointed but not surprised #liampayneisoverparty

Others used the opportunity to call for more acceptance of the bisexual community:

I am a bisexual woman, I want to be accepted For being bi, not fetishized! #liampayneisoverpartyً

#liampayneisoverparty we don’t stan men using bisexual women as objects for their pleasure. bisexuals wanting threesomes is the worst fucking stereotype stop being so biphobic my god

This person summed it up perfectly, tweeting, "We aren't your toys, honey."

Stop sexualizing bi people!! We aren't your toys, honey. #liampayneisoverparty

Liam has yet to respond to the controversy, but here's hoping he heard the message loud and clear: bisexuals are not to be fetishized.
