7 Things To Do Before Summer Ends

Temple UHRL's Survival Guide - July 2019 Edition. Can you believe it’s already the end of July? It feels like just yesterday we watched our Owls fly the nest! Summer is going to end sooner than you think, so here are 7 ways to make the most of those days.

Go see fireworks

What screams summer more than sitting outside enjoying fireworks and a scoop of ice cream? Most towns typically have firework shows throughout the summer, so check local Facebook groups and town websites for a calendar of events. Remember, if it’s legal in your state, you can make your own display, too!

Take a road trip

A road trip doesn’t need to be an elaborate trek across the country. Gather some friends, run to Target or Walmart or whatever place you like, grab some snacks and hit the road! Just make sure you’re back before move-in day ;) https://housing.temple.edu/important-dates

Start a new book

You know that book that has been sitting on your shelf for the last year? The one you were really excited about but never opened. Find a nice place to sit - under a tree, a comfy couch, your cozy bed - and get reading! Once summer is over, you’ll be stuck reading about calculus, the Earth’s core, and extinct bugs, so take this time to read the things you actually enjoy.

Watch the sunrise (and possibly go for a hike)

The early bird catches the worm, right? Well, you technically can just go back to bed after you watch the sunrise. Another option is to enjoy the serenity of a quiet morning and go for a hike. Be sure to bring water and snacks on your mini journey.

Have a picnic

You’re sitting on the lawn in front of the Eiffel Tower, you just opened some wine, and you’re eating the world’s finest meats and cheeses. Ok, ok, so this might not be the most realistic picnic option. But, we sure can make it feel that way. Head to a local park and bring your favorite foods, pop some bubbly, and crank up La Vie en Rose, and voilà-- your own Parisien experience!

Head to the county fair

The sights, sounds, and smells of the county fair is a great way to spend the end of summer. You know you love the lights and music of the merry-go-round, ferris wheel, and good ole fashioned fried food. Plus, you might be able to catch some fireworks at night.
