21 Times Funny Movies Actually Made People Cry

    *cries into popcorn*

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about a scene in a funny movie that made them emotional. Here are some of our favorite submissions:

    1. Monsters, Inc.

    Disney / Pixar / Via

I lose it when Sulley has to say goodbye to Boo. Every. Damn. Time.

    2. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

When I was a kid, I used to cry when SpongeBob and Patrick made it to Shell City and dried up under a heat lamp. It really broke my 7-year-old heart.

    3. Legally Blonde

    MGM Distribution Co.

I cry every time I watch Legally Blonde when Elle wins the case all on her own after Professor Callahan is a complete ass to her.

    4. Cheaper by the Dozen

    20th Century Fox

The scene in Cheaper by the Dozen where Mark’s frog dies but his family is too caught up in their own issues to care is devastating. It tore me apart to see that little boy feel like no one in his family cared about him.

    5. The Proposal

    Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

I got emotional at the end of The Proposal when Andrew walks back into the office to tell Margaret he really does love her.

    6. Bridesmaids

    Universal Pictures / Via

My friends and I were all laughing and having a good time until the scene where Melissa McCarthy’s character tells Kristen Wiig’s character it’s her own fault that her life sucks and she needs to get her shit together. My friend and I looked at each other and we were both bawling like babies because it hit home so hard.

    7. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

    Universal Pictures

It’s such an upbeat movie with great one-liners and iconic music, but the end scene in the church? It gets me every time.

    8. Trainwreck

    Universal Pictures

The funeral scene in Trainwreck made me a train wreck. You could tell how much Amy really loved her dad and how his passing truly was a surprise.

    9. Ted

    Universal Pictures

I got incredibly overwhelmed by how much Ted loved John and how he refused to go with the kidnapper because he only wanted to be John’s bear. I cried myself to sleep.

    10. The Wedding Singer

    New Line Cinema / Via

I cry every time Adam Sandler's character sings "I Wanna Grow Old With You" on the airplane because that's the kind of love I always want to have.

    11. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

    20th Century Fox

When Dexter the monkey gave Ben Stiller a kiss goodbye, I started BAWLING. I wanted Ahk to be happy with his parents, but I didn’t want to have to say goodbye to these characters.

    12. The Simpsons Movie

    20th Century Fox

The scene in The Simpsons Movie where Homer is crying after he realizes Marge taped over their wedding video and took the kids with her makes me so sad.

    13. Back to the Future Part III

    Universal Pictures

I cried when Doc Brown didn't come back to the future with Marty.

    14. Blockers

    Universal Pictures / Via

Blockers turned into a sobfest for me when Sam came out to her friends.

    15. I Feel Pretty

    STX Films

I cried when Renee took off her dress and looked at herself in the mirror in her Spanx. It really resonated with me to just be so deeply unhappy with your body that it’s preventing you from becoming who you really want to be.

    16. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

    IFC Films

The scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding where Toula’s dad presents her and Ian with the deed to a house as a wedding gift made me emotional.

    17. Big Daddy

    Columbia Pictures

I'm a serious movie crier, and years ago I chose Big Daddy for a first date, thinking there was no chance it'd make me cry. I had a full-on ugly cry when they took the kid away from Adam Sandler's character. Oops.

    18. Sing

    Universal Pictures

The scene where the gorilla's dad breaks out of prison just to tell his son that he is proud of him completely wrecked me.

    19. The Edge of Seventeen

    STX Entertainment / Via

The Edge of Seventeen makes me feel so many feels, especially the scene where Nadine admits to her brother how insecure she is.

    20. Marmaduke

    20th Century Fox

I bawled my eyes out in Marmaduke when he was stuck in the rushing river during a rain storm. I cried even harder when he was standing on the rock declaring that spot to be for all the dogs, not just the "cool" dogs.

    21. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

    Sony Pictures / Via

I bawled at the end of the Jumanji remake when we find out that Alex named his daughter after “the girl who saved his life." It was so sweet and touching to see not only his appreciation, but her character development.
