Ten Reasons Why Italy Should Be Your Next Trip Abroad

When it comes to traveling abroad, the options seem endless...but the following ten tidbits explain why urban Italian gems Milan and Venice (Milano and Venezia) simply must be your next stop outside American soil.

1. The architecture will not be outdone.

Duomo Square in Milan, Italy, hosts this breathtaking cathedral at the forefront, which is the first sight to greet you upon exiting the metro station.

2. The darling musicality of the Italian language.

It sounds like people talking in song. Beautifully melodic, with a musical sound, the tone of Italian speakers fluctuates up and down so quickly and artfully, they might as well be belting out an energetic tune. Throw in their animated hand gestures and you've got yourself one entertaining way to communicate. Also, some Italians greet and say goodbye in duplicates (i.e. ciao ciao!) How freaking cute is that?

3. The food…just...the food…

Need we say more? Among the must-try yummies are the pizza (obviously), canolis, bread, and gelato.

4. Where else will you have the chance to partake in a gondola ride?

Nowhere. That's where.

5. The remarkable variety in terrain and sightseeing.

When trekking throughout the country, one minute you may find yourself driving through snow-capped mountains, the next in the city enjoying a croissant at an outdoor cafe, and before you know it you may end up in Venice (at least, you should), which is, well...unlike any other place you'll ever see.

When you are traversing from city to city, don't forget the essentials: a culture-appropriate snack, a practical bag, postcards for friends and family, and a pocket-sized journal to record new sights and experiences.
