"It's time to grow up and have the discussion on gun reform."

Wayne, which is not his real name, told BuzzFeed he was compelled to write the post as a response to the "terrible things have happened recently, and I feel I was part of both sides of the debate."

Wayne says he owns several types of guns, including a "higher end ... rifle with 'military grade' elements." He explains how the semi-automatic elements work:

After saying he doesn't "need" this machinery — but "wants" it – he also acknowledges it has a controversial place in the recent conversations surrounding firearms in America:

He then raised these questions about owning assault rifles, alluding to the assault in Orlando.

Wayne ended his Facebook post saying if "the laws change" and his assault rifle becomes illegal to own, "I would turn it in."

Wayne has received both compassion and harsh criticism for his thoughts on the divisive issue. He wants to "remind his detractors that we are part of a communal society, and that insular thinking is a way that society breaks down."
